Unlocking EV Charging Grants

The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is here, and it’s already transforming the way businesses operate.

We know transitioning to EVs could seem like a big step – but as a proud OZEV-approved installer, we make sure your organisation has an easier and affordable way to embrace the change.

Government Grants: Your Key to EV Charging

The government is committed to supporting the EV transition, which means that significant financial assistance is available. LCM Electrical can help you access these grants, significantly reducing the cost of installing EV charging points at your workplace. Consider it an investment in your business’s future, with some support from the UK government.

What Commercial Grants are Available?

  1. EV charge point grant for commercial landlords:
  • This grant helps commercial landlords reduce the cost of installing EV chargepoints for their tenants. The aim is to encourage the provision of charging facilities at commercially let properties, making them more attractive to businesses and their employees who drive electric vehicles.
  • What it offers: You can get up to 75% off the cost of purchasing and installing a chargepoint socket, capped at a maximum of £350 per socket.
  • How many grants: Commercial landlords can apply for up to 100 grants each financial year. These can be for single or multiple properties.
  • Eligibility: You must be a business registered at Companies House or VAT registered with HMRC. The chargepoints installed must be exclusively for the use of the building’s staff and vehicles, not for public use. The property must be in the UK (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).
  1. EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets:
  • This grant supports small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with the costs of installing the infrastructure needed for EV chargepoints, both for current and future needs. This includes wiring, posts, and the installation of the chargepoints themselves.
  • What it offers: The grant covers up to 75% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of £15,000 per grant. This funding can be used for both the infrastructure and the chargepoint sockets installed at the same time.
  • How many grants: Businesses can receive up to 5 grants across 5 different sites.
  • Eligibility: Your business must have 249 employees or fewer and be registered at Companies House or VAT-registered with HMRC. The chargers must be for the exclusive use of staff and fleet vehicles and the parking spaces must be private, off-road, and clearly defined. A minimum of 5 parking spaces must be part of the project, with at least one chargepoint socket installed and infrastructure in place for the remaining spaces.
  1. Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS):
  • The WCS is a voucher-based scheme that helps businesses, charities, and public sector organisations reduce the cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints for their employees. Small accommodation businesses (like B&Bs) are also eligible.
  • What it offers: The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs (including VAT) of purchasing and installing EV charge points, capped at a maximum of £350 per socket.
  • How many sockets: An applicant can claim for up to 40 sockets across all their sites.
  • Eligibility: Your organisation must have off-street parking and a clear business need for EV charge points. You must either own the property or have the landlord’s permission to install the chargers. The installation must be carried out by an OZEV-approved installer.

Remember that these grants have specific eligibility criteria and application processes.
