Solar Installations

Commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) installations support organisations looking to generate electricity on site and reduce reliance on grid-supplied power. For non-domestic environments, solar PV can form part of a wider energy and carbon reduction strategy where site conditions allow.

Overview

LCM Environmental delivers commercial solar installations across the UK for industrial, commercial, and multi-site clients. Each project is assessed individually, with feasibility, system design, and delivery aligned to the physical constraints of the building, existing electrical infrastructure, and operational requirements.

The service focuses on the installation and integration of solar PV systems intended to operate alongside existing electrical supplies. Battery storage and EV charging infrastructure are not included within this scope and are delivered under separate services where required.

All works are planned and delivered as a managed service, with responsibilities, interfaces, and compliance obligations confirmed on a project-by-project basis.

This approach is designed to support operational continuity while providing clear scope control and documented handover.

Impact

For commercial sites, energy costs, grid resilience, and carbon reporting are increasingly material considerations. Solar PV can help organisations reduce exposure to fluctuating electricity prices and demonstrate progress towards environmental objectives.

However, poorly scoped or incorrectly integrated systems can introduce electrical risk, operational disruption, or compliance uncertainty. Structural capacity, network connections, export arrangements, and maintenance responsibilities all require careful consideration.

A structured approach to feasibility, design, and installation helps ensure solar systems are appropriate for the site, aligned with operational constraints, and compliant with applicable requirements. When delivered with clear governance and documentation, commercial solar installations can support long-term planning without compromising safety or business continuity.

Involvement

Commercial solar installations are delivered through a defined, project-led process:

Feasibility and site assessment

Review of roof type, orientation, available space, electrical infrastructure, and operational constraints.

System design

Development of a solar PV layout aligned to site conditions, electrical capacity, and agreed objectives.

Installation and integration

Installation of solar PV modules, mounting systems, cabling, inverters, and connection to on-site electrical distribution.

Testing and commissioning

Electrical testing, system checks, and commissioning activities prior to activation.

Handover and documentation

Provision of agreed system documentation and operational information.

Maintenance and monitoring

Ongoing inspection or monitoring where included within the agreed scope.

Compliance, Standards & Governance

Commercial solar installations are delivered in line with applicable UK electrical and health and safety requirements, where relevant to the agreed scope of works.

Network connection and export arrangements are managed where included, subject to system size, site conditions, and third-party requirements. Compliance obligations are confirmed during project development and may vary depending on installation type and operational environment.

Structural assessment of roofs, formal certifications, or specialist surveys are not included unless explicitly commissioned.

Typical Use Environments

This service is typically used within:

• Commercial and industrial buildings
• Warehouses and logistics facilities
• Manufacturing and processing sites
• Office buildings and mixed-use developments
• Multi-site property portfolios

Each environment is assessed individually to confirm suitability and delivery approach.

Planned vs Reactive Use

Planned use

Solar installations are delivered as planned works, following feasibility assessment and scope agreement. Where included, maintenance and inspections are typically preventative in nature.

Reactive use

Reactive fault response is only provided where an ongoing operation and maintenance agreement is in place.

Roof inspections, surveys and load readiness

Where required, LCM Environmental can also support pre-installation roof inspections and surveys for industrial and commercial units. This helps confirm roof condition, access constraints, and whether the structure is suitable for the proposed PV system and mounting approach.

If remedial works are needed to bring the roof up to the required standard to accommodate the additional load, this can be scoped and delivered as a separate, documented work package. Any structural verification, specialist surveys, or third-party certification requirements are agreed and commissioned in advance, based on site conditions and client responsibilities.

What happens next?

To ensure clarity, control, and alignment before installation, an initial discussion is used to confirm site suitability and project objectives. If appropriate, a site survey and feasibility assessment are undertaken.
