(Fuel) Sample the Difference: Bulk Fuel Storage Sampling

Your backup energy sources play a vital role in all critical industries – and whilst bulk storing fuel might not be the lowest-maintenance choice out there, it is efficient when it comes to getting the job done. So how do you ensure environmental compliance, and operational efficiency and lower your fuel environment-associated costs?

Let’s start with the basics – make sure your fuel is clean, compliant and avoid ‘diesel bug’ accumulation. The easiest way is to regularly sample your fuel storage vessels (1 to 3 sample extractions) – this is something that you can do yourself and send us the samples for testing in our state-of-the-art laboratory partner facility; alternatively, we can collect the samples and process them on your behalf, reducing your involvement and exposure.

Here are 5 reasons to book your fuel sampling and testing with us today:

1) Reduce environmental risks

Risking a failure of environmental compliance inspection is something no business owner would consciously do. Sampling your fuel storage every 6-12 months ensures that your ‘liquid gold’ meets the necessary regulations and prevents possible environmental contamination. Fuel spillage can cause soil and groundwater contamination – a costly and reputation-damaging incident to remedy. Whilst sampling your fuel regularly can’t discover pipework issues, it can detect rust levels in the fuel, helping you identify a potential unseen problem.

2) Don’t wait to cross ‘that bridge’ when you come to it

Tempting as it is to let your fuel sit there until you need it, the chemistry works in (not so) mysterious ways; the long and short of it is – fuel attracts water, so in time, contamination is inevitable. If you leave it ‘stewing’ in diesel bug for long enough, not even our filtration equipment would be able to save your fuel – you do not want to dispose of such an expensive asset. The fact is, it’s always cheaper to ‘save’ your current fuel supply than to have to buy a new one – which brings us back to sampling and testing your fuel regularly to avoid any unnecessary expenses down the road.

3) Quality Assurance

If you are particularly attached to your equipment and machinery, then running ‘dirty’ fuel through it would not be your first choice. Fuel quality affects the lifespan and performance of your generators and engines. Fuel sampling ensures that there’s no inflicted damage from the pipeline, no reduced efficiency and no costly repairs associated with sludge accumulation in your machinery.

4) Be proactive, not reactive

Regular fuel sampling and testing provide you with insight into your fuel consumption, operational efficiency, and state of equipment. Keeping on top of your fuel quality allows your organisation to address any outstanding issues and improve operational processes and performance. Don’t wait for a breakdown.
